Tens of thousands of people have participated on Saturday in Berlin exuberant and colorfully dressed in the 43rd Christopher Street Day. The police spoke of 65,000 participants, the organizers even of 80,000. Shortly after the start of the demonstration at 1 p.m., about 35,000 people had already gathered in Mitte, as a police spokesman told rbb|24. The organizers had registered 20,000 participants in advance.

If the police assembly authority confirms the number of participants on Monday, the CSD would be the largest demonstration in Berlin since the beginning of the Corona pandemic in March 2020. According to the current status, the second largest event is the large-scale demonstration against the Corona policy in August 2020 with about 30,000 participants.

Co-organizer Nasser El-Ahmad was very satisfied after the CSD parade: "We are all agreed on the board. It was a successful demonstration after a year and a half of silence," he told rbb in the evening. Because of the Corona pandemic, the big CSD parade had been canceled last year.

Hoogay and Happy Pride: On Saturday, the Christopher Street Day parade went through Berlin. More politics, less party was the motto this time. Because of the Corona pandemic, the CSD should be a few sizes smaller. Nevertheless, according to the police, 65,000 people were on the road, the organizers even spoke of 80,000. An earlier estimate of 35,000 corrected the police in the evening again upwards. This made it the largest demonstration in Berlin since the beginning of the Corona crisis.

The crowd was large, masks were not always worn. It was also political: Culture Senator Klaus Lederer (Left) wants to make Berlin a "queer freedom zone", criticized Poland and Hungary.
