When the coronavirus outbreak in the US first started getting bad in February 2020 and early March 2020, the estimates of restaurants closing permanently were nowhere near as high as the more updated estimates 2 full months later.

In the last week, the National Restaurant Association released updated estimates that US restaurants have already lost $80 billion dollars including $50 billion dollars in losses in just the month of April.

Some restaurants have even reported that revenues have collapsed by 70% to 100% and the new estimates are that even with partial reopening later in the year that the US restaurant industry will have lost $240 billion dollars in 2020.

Some more updated estimates are predicting that at least 30% of all restaurants in the US will be gone before the coronavirus outbreak problems are over.

SBA Loans and the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) seem to not be helping independent, family owned restaurants.
