The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has compiled a list of disinfectant products that have qualified for use against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Vinegar is not on the list.

Vinegar isn't an EPA-registered household disinfectant, and isn't recommended in place of bleach solutions, isopropyl alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.

The acetic acid in vinegar kills some types of germs, however it is not strong enough to be an effective disinfectant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

If you are using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, the CDC recommends the hand sanitizer must have more than 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol to kill the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
