Croatia Given Safe Travel stamp by World Travel and Tourism Council
After a number of countries issued quarantine rules against Croatia, Croatia's Tourism Ministry stated on 23rd August that the World Travel and Tourism Council, which represents the global travel and tourism sector, had awarded Croatia its Safe Travels Stamp, created in May this year.
The initiative was designed to rebuild confidence among consumers so they can travel safely once restrictions are lifted.

The specially designed stamp will allow travellers to recognise governments and companies around the world which have adopted health and hygiene global standardised protocols so travellers can experience ‘Safe Travels’.
The designation enables the identification of destinations and companies around the world that have adopted global health and hygiene standards, confirms Croatia's Tourism Ministry.
“As a popular European and Mediterranean destination, we have been trying to cope with all problems and secure stability and security for the local population and all travellers who have decided to visit us this year despite the current situation.
In order to enable ‘the new normal’, we have prepared the necessary safety protocols and measures to make the stay of tourists in our country as pleasant as possible and to protect their health — Tourism and Sports Minister Nikolina Brnjac
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) welcomed the WTTC Safe Travels Stamp
which places the safety and hygiene of travellers as a top priority.
The stamp is critical to re-establish consumer confidence in our sector and ensure travellers can rest assured that enhanced standards of hygiene are in place and they can once again experience ‘Safe Travels’. — Gloria Guevara, president and CEO of UNWTO
The WTTC protocols were devised following the experience of WTTC members dealing with COVID19 and based on guidelines from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Along with Croatia, the WTTC Safe Travels Stamp has also been awarded in Europe to Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Ukraine, and Turkey.
Portugal, alongside with Saudi Arabia, Cancun (Mexico), Barcelona and Seville (Spain) were part of the first tourist destinations to receive the "Safe Travels" global safety and hygiene stamp
Twenty-two other destinations around the world have been given the WTTC Safe Travels Stamp, the Croatian ministry said.
On Friday, the UK removed Croatia from its travel corridors list.
The action means that travellers coming from Croatia will need to quarantine on arrival to the UK.
This was after Croatia saw a 164% increase in weekly Covid cases per 100,000 people from 10.4 on 12 August to 27.4 on 19 August
The UK's action came a day after Germany also added Croatia's coastal regions of Sibenik-Knin and Split-Dalmatia to the list of "high-risk" areas.
It meant that all travellers returning from these areas have to undergo testing and a 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Germany.
The change in quarantine rules is likely to produce a hit to Croatia’s tourism economy.
According to the statistics of the European Union, Croatia is the eighth most popular European tourist destination, behind Spain, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Austria, Greece and Germany.
