America’s wettest state is running out of water. Florida—with its swamps, lakes, extensive coastlines, and legions of life-giving springs—faces a drinking water crisis. ​Drying Up: The Fresh Water Crisis in Florida​ is a wake-up call and a hard look at what the future holds for those who call Florida home. Journalist and educator John Dunn draws on more than 100 interviews and years of research to find that there will not be enough water to meet demand if “business as usual” prevails. During this program, John will discuss how multiple factors are shrinking our natural water systems and spoiling freshwater resources for the public. Attendees will learn the reasons for the decline of Florida’s water quality and the approaches Florida is taking to handle their fresh water supply. A Q&A session will follow the talk.

He is the author of numerous non-fiction books and articles for publications such as​ ​Sierra Club Magazine, Florida Trend Magazine, the Ocala Star Banner, Business Florida, the St. Petersburg Times and many others. His most recent book, Drying Up: the Fresh Water Crisis in Florida, is the winner of The Florida Book Award's 2019 Bronze Prize for Non-Fiction and the 2019 Florida Historical Society's Stetson Kennedy Award for environmental writing.
