This is the inaugural event of a new EPC signature initiative that aims to bring globally renowned speakers, including high-level officials, practitioners, and thought leaders, for a 45 minutes interactive conversation on relevant geopolitical issues

The debate surrounding the future of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has become one of the top discussion points at international level, with all parties signalling their intention to return to the initial deal. There is an important momentum for taking active steps in this direction, in spite of the many existing challenges. The discussion will address possible avenues for returning to compliance, including the steps needed to this end, the role of the EU/E3 as a bridge between the United States and Iran, as well as possible future roadmaps for Iran’s engagement with the EU. The conversation will also touch upon the Middle East security environment and the impact of Covid-19 in Iran and on the wider region.

Foreign Minister Zarif set out Iran’s position with regard to the JCPOA and related issues in an online exchange with David O’Sullivan, former EU Ambassador to the United States and Chair of the Governing Board of EPC.
