For those who have edited “GameUserSettings.ini”, and inserted the following two lines in order to drop the game-engine down to D3D11 {instead of 12} on a Windows 10 or 11 system.
```
[D3DRHIPreference]
bPreferD3D12InGame=False
```
-- The new version of the launcher distributed with the Vera update passes a cmdline argument to the engine based on the detected D3D API-level for the Operating System. In this case, that means “-d3d12” is passed down to QRSL.
This argument instructs (*forces rather*) the engine to use D3D12, and causes the above preference-lines to be ignored. Meaning, if you’ve made such an edit – it no longer has any effect. e.g, if you needed this before to achieve stability on older graphics hardware, you may find the game unstable once more.
Fortunately, if the launcher is ran under Windows 7 or 8 compatibility mode, then “-d3d11” will be passed to QRSL instead of “-d3d12”, and this conversely will force D3D11.
To do this, navigate to:
“\Steam\steamapps\common\Tower of Fantasy\Tower of Fantasy\Launcher\”
or
“\Tower of Fantasy\Tower of Fantasy\Launcher\”
- Right-Click on “tof_launcher.exe”, select “properties”.
- Select the “Compatibility” tab.
- Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for”.
- Select “Windows 7”
- OK the settings prompt.
Close the launcher if it was already open, re-start the launcher, and re-start the game. You can undo any edits that have been made to the config files, as these are not needed / have no effect.
