Maryland PPC Policy Working Group, Housing Subgroup presents...
Foreclosure Information in Maryland Presentation feat. Beth Jacobson (Jan 7, 2021)
From 1998 to 2007, Beth Jacobson worked for Wells Fargo as an award-winning Sales Manager involved in underwriting training seminars for loan officers. After her experience with products like subprime and stated income loans – “non-prime” loans designed for self-employed home buyers where income is not verified – Ms. Jacobson blew the whistle on Wells Fargo due to its reverse red-lining, the practice of targeting neighborhoods (mostly non-White) for higher prices or lending on unfair terms such as predatory lending of subprime mortgages.
Ms. Jacobson’s information resulted in a $175 million Wells Fargo settlement with the Department of Justice.
Since 2009, Ms. Jacobson has been actively involved in mortgage loan compliance as an expert witness who testifies in circuit court loan cases. In cases involving the Bank of New York Mellon and Deutsche Bank, Ms. Jacobson has presented expert affidavits.
Maryland PPC is grateful for the information Ms. Jacobson provided in this video on the mortgage foreclosure problems Maryland citizens face – especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her presentation covers 2021 Maryland General Assembly bills that will rectify foreclosure laws and allow families to stay in their homes.
Hosts: Susan Allen & Don Pelles, Maryland PPC Policy Leads
Presenter: Beth Jacobson
