Amnesty International called for the release of activist Alexei Navalny during a demo in Berlin on Saturday.
Protesters could be seen holding 'Free Navalny' banners outside the Russian embassy, after the activist announced on Friday that he would gradually end the hunger strike he began on March 31.
Director of Amnesty International Germany Markus Beeko said: "We are also here extremely concerned with his health. After the poison attack, from which he barely survived, the prison conditions he is subjected to in the last three months are aggravating and let us fear that this is aiming to kill him slowly."
Last February, a court replaced Navalny's suspended sentence in an embezzlement case with a prison term for violating probation terms. Navalny said the trial was politically motivated.

SOT, Markus Beeko, Director of Amnesty International Germany (German): "Alexei Navalny is a political prisoner and Amnesty International demands his immediate release."
