Global Distribution of Income and its Political Meaning

Branko Milanovic, in this presentation for the Stone Center's 2020 "Inequality by the Numbers" virtual workshop, presents an overview of trends in global income inequality, both between and within countries, from the early 1800s to the present. He focuses in particular on three subperiods of this span and describes the political dynamics associated with each one. Branko is a senior scholar at the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality and a faculty member at The Graduate Center, CUNY.
