The International Presenting Commons (IPC) in collaboration with HowlRound presents the conversation How did we get here? The History/Future of International Presenting: The US Perspective livestreaming on the global, commons-based, peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Monday 1 March 2021 at 4 p.m. PST (San Francisco, UTC -8) / 6 p.m. CST (Chicago, UTC -6) / 7 p.m. EST (New York, UTC -5).

This past year has taken its toll on the global cultural exchange with COVID-19 shutting down the world, social justice unrest from the George Floyd shooting, and the isolationist agenda from the past White House administration, the presenting of international artists has taken a backseat. As we move forward and our theaters, festivals, and cultural gathering spaces reopen, it is crucial and imperative that we shore up the practice of, the process and presentation of international artists. Knowing that we have had a rich history of doing so, we must examine the foundation—a look back to move forward.

The individuals that paved the road for exchange will share with us the “why” that history launched many successful and fruitful relationships and led to strong cultural diplomacy.
