On July 13, India recorded nearly 29,000 new COVID-19 cases and 500 deaths. The spike has prompted more cities and states to reimpose shutdowns. Bengaluru city will return to a total lockdown from July 14, while the most populous state of Uttar Pradesh will implement complete lockdowns every weekend until end-July. Total infections across India stand at more than 800,000, and observers warned that it may pass one million this week at the current rate.
