For their new album – their seventh on Deutsche Grammophon – Lucas & Arthur Jussen recorded music for two pianos of Rachmaninov, Stravinsky, Shostakovich and Arensky. The brothers have always known they wanted to make an album with this beautiful, powerful and technically demanding Russian repertoire. During the summer of 2020 the Covid-crisis allowed them to really focus on doing so. The artwork of the album is inspired by the art of Wassily Kandinsky. ‘Every tone in music has its own soul and character, just as every color in a painting has,’ Kandinsky said. ‘The reflection of the colors is the reflection of the music for us,’ Arthur says, ‘and maybe in these dark times it’s good to have some color in your life,’ says Lucas.
