Avete everyone! And here's another update on my Minecraft Rome Map.

In this series I will make small videos about the updates of my Minecraft Rome project. In this project I'm recreating ancient Rome in the year 200 AD. Currently I'm busy with what I call the 'Beautification Updates'. These updates are about changing various buildings to look better as well as placing them in the right position (I started building this project with a little lack of knowledge of the buildings which has forced me to fix all of this now :P). I hope you'll like the videos.

Imperial Palace:
The Roman Imperial Palace is not just one single building. It rather is a combination of multiple palaces, built by multiple emperors that together form a large palace complex that is the Imperial Palace. The Palace is located on the Palatine hill, the hill upon which Rome was founded. During the Republic it was the location where a lot of wealthy Romans had their villas, but when it became the imperial residence, the Imperial Palace slowly covered more and more of the hill.

The first part of the palace was built by Rome's first emperor, Augustus. His Domus Augusti can hardly be considered a palace though. Even though it was built very glamerously, Augustus's modest villa could've been owned by any wealthy Roman. The same goes for the Domus Livae (Livia's house, Augustus's wife and first empress). Both houses were quite modest and they even lost parts of their structure due to renovations and new building activities on the hill. The Domus Augusti shown in the video for example, already lost some of its original size.

The actual first palace was built by Augustus's son Tiberius, who built his Domus Tiberiana right behind his parent's houses. Very little is known about the Domus Tiberiana, because in 1550 the Farnese Gardens were built right on top of thier remains. These gardens are a Unesco World heritage site, so researching the Domus Tiberiana without disturbing the gardens is impossible. After its construction, the Domus Tiberiana was incorperated in Nero's Domus Transitoria when he was building his Domus Aurea. Very little of this still remains, as the Romans demolised almost all of Nero's palace after he died.

The next part of the palace that was constructed was the part that this video starts with, Domitian's Palace. This part of the palace is the largest of them all and covers the most of the hill. Domitian's Palace is split in three parts: The Domus Flavia (official work palace), the Domus Augustana (domestic palace) and the Stadium (gardens). Emperors after Domitian (Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus and Marcus Aurelius) all made small tweaks, adjustments and additions to Domitian's Palace during their reign.

The final addition to the Imperial Palace was the Domus Severiana, built by emperor Septimius Severus. In the meantime the emperors had completely run out of space on the Palatine hill, so Septimius ordered the costruction of a large artificial terrace next to the other parts of the palace, upon which he constructed his Domus Severiana. In order to hide the "ugly" brick foundations of the terrace, the Septizodium (large nymphaeum with fountains) was constructed in front of the terrace in order to obscure the view.

Now that the Imperial Palace is finally done, I can work on other parts of Rome finally. The next update will be also related to the palace, since the building had a direct connection to it via a bridge. It is also the largest stadium ever built in human history. Yes that's right, the Circus Maximus is next!
