Organise 2020: Organising against the far right

The purpose of this session is to raise awareness about the growing threat of the far right and hear from trade unionists in India, Brazil and the US - where there are elected leaders promoting racist narratives - as well to give an overview of the global situation.


In the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is also relevant to explore how authoritarian regimes are using the crisis to further crack down on rights and promote harmful anti-migrant and racist narratives.



Speakers:



Chidi King – Director, Equality Department, International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) (which represents trade union national centres worldwide).



Tefere Gebre – Executive Vice President of AFL-CIO. In 2013 he became the first immigrant, political refugee, Black man and local leader elected as a national officer of the AFL-CIO.

Carmen Helena Ferreira Foro - General Secretary of the CUT in Brazil – one of the largest trade union confederations with 7.5 million members. She was a regional leader of the Federation of Agricultural Workers.

Narahari Priya Garnaik - works with Youth-INTUC from Odisha State of India organising & coordinating activities of Youth-INTUC & promoting them in social media, Indian National Trade Union Congress, India
