Authoritarian leaders have taken advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to further concentrate power in their own hands. Meanwhile, the far right has pushed hard from the margins to accelerate the collapse of democracy. John Feffer will discuss the power grabs by Donald Trump, Jair Bolsonaro, Viktor Orban, and others as well as how the “accelerationists” on the far right have mobilized on the street, even during the #BlackLivesMatter demonstrations. He will also talk about progressive responses and the prospects for a more peaceful and just post-pandemic politics.
