After weeks of spotting Model S prototypes with round steering wheels, we finally found the first Tesla testing on public roads featuring a Yoke Steering wheel! Tesla's new Yoke steering wheel has been the subject of much debate among Tesla fans ever since the announcement of the Refresh, some event suggesting it wouldn't come to market, so we decided to go straight to the source and ask Elon himself about the decision to move away from a round steering wheel on the new Model S & Model X. Unfortunately, Elon wouldn't take our calls so we got the next best person, Randy Pobst. Randy is famous for winning hundreds of professional races early in his career as well as maintaining the most lap records at Laguna Seca, he also the lead performance test driver at Motor Trend Magazine, and he even consulted with Tesla on Track Mode. We got a chance to sit down with Randy for another one of our Kilowatt Conversations to discuss his thoughts on the practicality of a Yoke Steering Wheel for on-track as well as daily driving.
