S. Korea's vice FM arrives in Tehran to discuss release of detained ship, Iranian assets frozen in S. Korea

South Korea's vice foreign minister Choi Jong-kun met with his Iranian counterpart in Tehran on Sunday, local time, to discuss the release of a South Korean ship seized in Iran and Iranian assets frozen in South Korea.
Citing an Iranian news agency, Germany's DPA reports, that the tanker will remain in place pending a decision by the Iranian judiciary.
As for Iran's assets frozen in South Korea, Choi plans to hear Iran's demands and see what Seoul can and cannot do as the issue is related to U.S. sanctions.
Iranian officials reportedly say the ship's seizure is unrelated to the frozen assets.
The country has been asking Seoul to let it use its frozen assets, worth around 7 billion U.S. dollars, so that it can reportedly buy medical equipment including COVID-19 vaccines.
