It's lovely to think about it: Humanity travels to a nearby world, settles it and begins to make it habitable so we don't need to live in protected environments. Mars is a rough place for human beings and making it into a habitable world is not going to be easy.

Given that humans are having a very difficult time keeping our Earth habitable, it is very hard to see how we would have the skills necessary to convert a hostile world environment into one more suitable for us.

Still, people think about it. But is it a delusional? Wishful thinking? Let's talk about the real challenges facing us as we dream of a second home in the solar system.
