The Matrix 4 is an upcoming American science fiction action film and the fourth installment in The Matrix franchise. The film is co-written and directed by Lana Wachowski, one of the two Wachowskis who directed the previous three films. Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Lambert Wilson reprise their roles from previous films in the series. The film will be a joint production by Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures and is scheduled to be released on April 1, 2022.

Filming
Under the code name "Project Ice Cream", the film began production in San Francisco on February 4, 2020.[30][34][35] Filming is also set to take place at Babelsberg Studio in Germany, and in Chicago.[36][35] Filming in San Francisco caused irritation amongst citizens and city workers after damage was inflicted to buildings and street lights. [37] As opposed to other productions, no second unit was needed during the action sequences as Wachowski directed all the scenes herself.[38]

On March 16, 2020, production on the film was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[39] The production of the film is scheduled to continue on July 6, 2020.[40] Despite this, it was reported on June 24, 2020 that Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Neil Patrick Harris have resumed filming of their scenes
