They are bloodthirsty and can kill. They are barely visible and lurk in the shadows. They are understandably unpopular and extremely #dangerous... #TICKS! As parasites, they need to feed off the blood of other living #creatures – a bit like mosquitoes. But compared to mosquitoes, ticks need much more blood. In extreme cases, they can spend up to two weeks attached to their (animal or human) host, drinking its blood. If a tick is infected with pathogens, then a tick bite, harmless in itself, can be dangerous to humans. We are with Lieutenant Colonel Professor Gerhard Dobler to learn about the parasites. Among other things, the tick expert discusses how we can protect ourselves, how to properly remove ticks, and the threat to soldiers, which should not be underestimated.
