For the first time in both Allies’ history, US Air Force B-1B Lancer strategic bombers are flying training sorties from Norway, including a recent overflight of the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
The Lancers, part of the US Air Force’s 7th Bomb Wing, flew from Dyess Air Force Base in Texas to Ørland Air Base in Norway, landing in 2021. They’re part of a Bomber Task Force Europe mission, which allows US pilots to familiarise themselves with the airspace and their NATO Allies through a series of training exercises. The Lancers integrated with NATO Baltic Air Policing fighters from Germany and Italy, flying a combined mission over Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
All US Air Force personnel were screened for COVID-19 prior to leaving the United States and quarantined before beginning their training.
Footage includes shots of B-1Bs landing at and taking off from Ørland Air Base, US Air Force personnel performing maintenance on the bombers, troops arriving at Ørland via passenger jets, and bombers flying over Estonia and Latvia.
