The total number of COVID-19 vaccines administered throughout the world has now surpassed the total number of infections.
However,... concerns remain about giving AstraZeneca's vaccine to the elderly.

The number of COVID-19 vaccinations worldwide on Wednesday surpassed the total number of cases since the pandemic began.
According to the University of Oxford's vaccine tracker,... the number of doses administered reached 105 million,... while the number of confirmed cases was at 103-point-5 million.
As of Thursday,... the number of jabs administered topped 107 million,... across 81 countries.
Data also revealed that, while vaccination rates are accelerating rapidly,... the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases is slowing.
However,... experts say it's mostly due to strict countermeasures in place rather than the vaccines,... as they have not yet affected transmissions in most places.
Currently Israel is the only country where vaccines are reducing transmission as inoculations there have been rolled out more extensively and rapidly than anywhere in the world.
Meanwhile,... recent data from the University of East Anglia with UK government funding shows Pfizer-BioNTech's vaccine gives people about 90-percent protection from the virus after 21 days,... from just a single jab.
The results counter to an earlier study which suggested a single dose only provided 52-percent efficacy.
EU nations continue to rule out AstraZeneca's vaccine for the elderly,... as France, Poland and Sweden have recommended against its use for older people,... joining Germany and Italy.
Other countries have issued their own recommendations.
Finland recommends the AstraZeneca vaccine for those 70 and under,... while other countries have much lower recommendation age,... with Poland at 60 and Belgium at 55.
However,... the UK drugmaker continues to insist its vaccine is safe and effective for all adults.
