Garmish-Partenkirchen, or lovingly called as Garmish by the locals is a district in the south of Bavaria bordering Austria. Connected to Munich by the Autobahn A-95, it is about an hour away. There are also plenty of Regional trains that run between Munich and Garmish, some even continue along to Innsbruck, Austria.

After our wonderful Italian trip, we were mostly confined because of new measures to fight Covid-19. When we decided to go out for small day trips within Germany, we weren't sure if that was even possible and were speculating all the safety measures we'd have to take.

In the winter the views are breathtakingly beautiful in the southern part of the country in the state of Bavaria. Also, since the temperatures were continually sub-zero for over a week, social distancing was very easy as there wasn't any significant crowd.

From Garmish, one can hop on the Zugspitzbahn with which they can reach Eibsee and further along to the top of the Zugspitze mountain. The train passes through some treacherous curves and deep tunnels right through the mountain. One can also ride the cable car from Eibsee right to the top.
