Zaine Griff is a romanticist, a singer, painter, poet, who worked with many artists, like David Bowie, Hans Zimmer, Warren Cann, Kate Bush, Yukihiro Takahashi, Gary Numan, The Kinks and Manfred Mann. He released 6 solo albums throughout the years and worked on 5 more albums with other bands and artists.

ZAINE GRIFF
Living in New Zealand, at early age of 16 he joined New Zealand rock-folkband The Human Instinct and wrote songs and sang on many on two albums. Soon Zaine Griff moved to London, played in different bands, joined The Kinks on the album Misfits and soon started a solo career.
Autumn 1979 he recorded his first solo-album ASHES AND DIAMONDS, produced by Tony Visconti. David Bowie attended the studio and together with Zaine Griff an his band he rerecorded three of his own songs: Space Oddity, Rebel Rebel and a very new version of Panic in Detroit, later added to Bowie’s albums Scary Monsters and – again – to Heathen. Space Oddity peaking at #1 in the UK charts in 1979.
A gentleman who added a great deal to the tone and color of Zaine’s first two solo albums was Hans Zimmer, now a worldwide famous film-music composer. Hans Zimmer, the synthesizer genius played on both albums and coproduced Zaine’s second album FIGVRES, which was composed around a series of poems and paintings. The poems were released in the Poetry book Figvres and the paintings and drawings were shown on an exhibition in Ebury Gallery, London – attended by many people, including the incrowd of London’s new wave and new romantic scene.

Several other wellknown musicians joined Zaine Griff on FIGVRES: Kate Bush, Warren Cann of Ultravox and Yukihiro Takahashi of YMO. Zaine went on to write and provide vocals on Takahashi’s solo album ‘What me Worry?’ with the much covered track This Strange Obsession, performed by the legendary Ronny.

Zaine joined The Helden Project of Hans Zimmer and Warren Cann and sang in six songs of the album that was recorded. The song Holding On – a beautiful duet with Linda Allan (Jardim) was released.

Zaine recorded several other new songs, which were not released at the time, but years later. He went back to New Zealand but after a visit to Prague in Czechia, Zaine wrote a whole bunch of new songs and with the album CHILD WHO WANTS THE MOON, released in 2011, Zaine Griff returned to ‘actively’ making new music again.

Since then Zaine Griff returned to stage in London, New Zealand and Japan, released three more albums and several interesting rereleases of his early solo albums.
