Despite the grave and complex environment posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, China has shown steady economic recovery, exceeding expectations amid a roller coaster of a year. It's the only major economy to grow in 2020. According to China's National Bureau of Statistics, the country's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.3 percent in 2020. China's success in controlling the pandemic also helped expand its share in global trade. The country's economy accounts for around 17 percent of the global economy. And the World Bank Group said that it expects China's economy to expand by 7.9 percent this year, while the global economy is on track to grow by 4 percent.
