This is a "live" version of the 1st single and title track from my newest album, "Everybody Matters."

Why I put "live" in quotes is because, though each of us recorded our parts as a one-take, unedited, live performance we did not record our parts simultaneously and in the same room, much as we would have liked to, due to the pandemic, related travel restrictions, and us being in 3 different cities.

Instead we undertook the way more laborious process of:
me recording a demo
sending it to Kaley and David
Kaley and David simultaneously recording and filming their respective parts
then sending their audio of that to me
then I did the same-- vid and audio
and sent them back to David
who then edited the video portion to be what you see here
and added our individual audio files
and sent the final combined project back to me
and I have now uploaded it.

In other words, besides it being way more fun to actually play simultaneously together, it's WAY less work. I'm pretty sure this is, in part, why concerts-- til the pandemic-- involved people on the stage together, at the same time. (And on another side note: I am the world's worst engineer, with a very old computer, a very cheap interface, and was using a radio announcer microphone, as an experiment... )

Prior to the pandemic the plan was that the 3 of us would play together, in person, on a 6 week long tour in Europe, in 2020. The tour has since been rescheduled twice, and now a 3rd time, by my long-suffering booking agency Idris Media-- to Spring, 2022. (Visit http://www.annvriend.com/shows.html for ongoing updates as shows are added, and hopefully STAY added!)

Actually, until this recent experiment the 3 of us had never actually played together, ever. Kaley and I played in Berlin in December, 2019, at a venue called Tempodrom, where we were opening for Lisa Stansfield. Unbeknownst to us at the time, it was our last tour until now-- whereas that year and the year before we had performed together all over western Europe, Australia, and Japan. That eve in Berlin David was in the audience, and stood in line very patiently at the incredibly busy merch table to try to introduced himself, which apparently he did, but we were in such a flurry to sell things in the 25 mins that we had allotted to us that I confess I do not remember.

But-- he also posted about our performance on social media, and a guitar tech I met literally once, years ago in Toronto, saw the post, and also happens to be be friends with David, and messaged me, saying, "There's this really great drummer in Berlin who's raving about your show! I can intro you if you want."

And actually, I was looking for an EU-based, super-funky drummer for my upcoming Spring 2020 tour. So, once that whirlwind tour was over we did get in touch, and I checked out his stuff, loved it, chatted with him and discovered we are both equally long-winded and find each other hilarious, and I hired him for the big tour--- that never happened.

So-- this is our placeholder til we can hopefully do this in person one day. And man, will that be infinitely easier than all the back and forth of passing files around. Props and thanks to Dave for the work it takes to edit the video part together. He has a whole series of videos like this with various musicians he knows called "3's a Crowd"-- super great stuff-- on his Insta https://www.instagram.com/ananiagram_official/?hl=en
