The 'Golden Webinars in Astrophysics' series seeks to bring forefront research in astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology to the public in the English and Spanish language. Our speaker of the Golden Webinar on December 4th, 2020 was Bill Press. The full title of the talk was "A Quick Dive into Computational Finance".

Dr. Press is a computer scientist and computational biologist with broad interests in the physical and biological sciences. He was for 20 years professor of astronomy and physics at Harvard, then deputy director of Los Alamos National Laboratory, now professor at the University of Texas in Austin in computer science and integrative biology. In astrophysics, he established the dynamic stability of rotating black holes, and is best known for the eponymous Press–Schechter formalism, which predicts the distribution of galaxy masses in the Universe. He is well know as the senior author of the 'Numerical Recipes' textbooks on scientific computing. A member of the National Academy of Sciences, he served on President Obama's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and is a past president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
