Just about an hour ago Tesla employees decided to cover the first Giga-Texas-made Model Y, which was the pre-produced vehicle.

"Gigafactory Austin factory offices. I hear they went and covered up the first test Model Y after pictures leaked online," Twitted Tesla enthusiast and news provided Whole Mars Blog, sharing images of covered what appears to be Model Y, made at Giga Texas.

The question remains, why did Tesla decide to cover this vehicle.

Earlier this morning, Torque News reported that we have seen the first pre-produced Tesla Model Y in display at Giga Texas, which was made in the Austin Gigafactory.

I asked my friend Joe Tegtmeyer if that was the first Model Y, made at Giga Texas. Here is what he told me.

"As far as I have been told, over the past couple of weeks, manufacturing of the first test Model Ys at Giga Texas have been happening and these are the first of the pre-production test cars. It is likely some parts to build the cars (like wheels, tires, interior, glass, etc…) were brought in for the tests, but other things like stamping, casting, robotic welding and assembly, paint, etc… are being done at the site.

"It is important to say these are test runs, not for sale vehicles, and are used to test equipment, calibration of installed machinery, and training of employees, plus work out production processes," Joe told me regarding Giga Texas Model Y EV.
