Kurdish activists are holding a demonstration in Berlin on Saturday, July 3, to protest against the presence of Turkish troops in northern Syria.

Turkey captured the town of Afrin from the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) as part of 'Operation Olive Branch' in March 2018. The Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were pushed from north-eastern Syria to create a 'safe zone' during 'Operation Peace Spring' offensive in October 2019.

Both operations led to the mass displacement of the predominantly Kurdish population amid accusations of multiple human rights violations by the Turkish forces.
