Interview with resident artist Lucas Ngo

Transcript of interview:

I am Lucas Ngo. I am a French artist living between Paris and Berlin.
This is my second time in Berlin. My first time was just after the first lockdown. I arrived here in Germany for a residency too
I mostly practice drawing but I experiment with sculpture and video, and since almost four years now I work with ink. This is the basis of all my experimentation and I work with transparency, mist and blur.

When I applied here, I wanted to continue working on landscape and complex of balance. It was a theme I was working on during my first residency, but I found another ideas just a few weeks before Because at the moment I found some pictures I made with analogue photography when I was experimenting.

I found the idea of chrysalis with these pictures. And chrysalis for me is something like a veil, you know, everything is visible through a veil, there is hesitation, it is like the intermediary between visible and invisible, what it is in progress finally.

So, since a few months I have been working with this subject and what can I say, all my research is focused on the veil, to play with visible and invisible

(what inspires you?)

I think photography. I work with a lot of photographies, with documentation like photographies or video. And for me it is a way to create a flash in my mind and it will help me create, to research a lexicon of imaginary

(if you had to describe your GlogauAIR time with one word which would it be?)

The first one I think now it is self-control. Because this is the second lockdown, it is now almost one year that the covid situation is here so self-control.
But now I think it is more introspection.

(what are your plans afterwards?)

Maybe to stay in berlin and to keep working as I do since a few months. I make collabs now, I work with a photographer, a model, a dancer, a performer, and I like to do it and it helps me extend my practice. So, keep working with this mood.
