Our starting point this lunchtime the first phone call between President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Joe Biden.
President Moon called for joint efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
Biden promised Washington's close cooperation on that and other issues.
Our senior Blue House correspondent Kim Minji starts us off.
President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Joe Biden have agreed to draw up a comprehensive strategy to deal with the issue of North Korea.
The two leaders held a phone conservation Thursday morning, Korea time, that lasted 32 minutes.
The call comes two weeks after Biden was sworn into office on January 20th.
"President Moon called for joint efforts for denuclearization and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. To this, Biden said it's important they share the same stance and that the U.S. closely cooperate toward those shared goals. They also agreed on the need to map out a comprehensive North Korea strategy."
The two leaders also agreed on the importance of trilateral cooperation involving Japan.
They shared views on other regional players, such as China although the Blue House did not elaborate on the details.
Moon and Biden also expressed hope they can further strengthen the Seoul-Washington alliance,... by expanding cooperation on global issues, such as tackling COVID-19 and responding to climate change.
Following the talks,... President Moon tweeted that he had a great conversation with President Biden, and they agreed to further upgrade the alliance which they said was anchored in shared values.
He said the allies will also stand together while working for peace on the peninsula and tackling global challenges.
The two leaders spoke on the phone in November last year just days after Biden was projected to have won the U.S. presidential election.
Back then, they agreed to cooperate closely to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.
At that time, Biden also called Seoul a "linchpin" of security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
Since taking office, President Biden has held phone talks with several world leaders,... including the heads of Canada, Mexico, the UK, France, Germany, Russia and Japan.
Presidents Moon and Biden also agreed to meet in person for a summit at an early date,... when the pandemic eases.
