Gigafactory Texas on 3 May 2021! This is where the Cyber Truck and Model Y will be built!
Another great day to fly at Giga Texas! Activity all over the place and I talked with two Tesla employees out doing videography work inside the plant and flying some drones for aerial shots as well! They were interested in some of my work and images, so who knows if some of these might be used by Tesla. We shall see.
In this video, we discuss the installation and function of a RETOX (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) or also known as RTO system meant to purify and clear the air of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) emitted during the paint process. We go into some depth to discuss the operation and functions of this system and as a bonus, we see them installing the major components this morning!

Here are the highlights from today's video:
- We see some interesting developments on the far west site (across the highway) today, including the final outline of the foundation they are constructing (it is north-to-south oriented and of diamond shape) … it looks like a smaller version of the existing factory!
- We also see continued work to install water pipes off to the west in order to eventually connect the factory to the City of Austin water system.
- On the south side, we see more land clearing and filling up of the last-remaining pond, and some filling of the east side of the large water detention pond. Does this indicate some major design changes?
- Work in the SW footing field is resuming following all the rain today, along with more steel parts and other materials deliveries.
- The east structure continues to get more metal wall studs installed on the west wall, more concrete external walls on the east side and more roofing materials arranged and being installed.
- The big excavation pit south of the paint shop is still filled with some water and a lot of mud, but we also see GeoPier work a bit farther south on the west side near where the plumbing trenches have been excavated.
- The west structure continues to grow to the south, and it is getting more external concrete wall panels on the west side. More materials and equipment are being moved into the ground and second floors, as well as some more internal walls being erected. Masonry work around stairs and elevator shafts continues as well. Finally, the sample window display area looks to have some work resuming on it today.
- The Battery Cell area steel structure is again growing to the north, with all 4 cranes actively working this morning. They are pouring another concrete floor on the 3rd level as well as accepting more steel materials being delivered by trucks.
- The casting machine area footing field looks to be drier than yesterday and prepared for some construction to begin this week if all goes well. The temporary LNG tanks have yet to be moved, however.
- Work on the east side battery cathode plant area has slowed a bit due to heavy rains, so not much going on there this morning other than trying to dry out the soil and drain away the ponded rainwater areas.
- More deliveries of EVAPCO cooling tower parts were taking place at the old plant building this morning as well.
