A Tesla vehicle caused a horrible accident - Did the passengers survive?
"Electric cars are the weakest vehicles ever. It is so dangerous to drive an electric car on the road!" This is certainly something some people would like you to believe. Because of the selective nature of reports in the media, as well as the focus on negative and bad news over positive reports, some people may be concerned about buying a Tesla. It cannot cover you in a collision, will catch fire, accelerates on its own when you least expect it, and its Autopilot system might cause a crash.
While all of these things "might" happen, they're arguably not likely to happen any more often in a Tesla or any electric car than they are in a gas car. In fact, there's plenty of research that suggests EVs are less likely to catch fire, driver-assist systems save many more lives than they take, and sudden unintended acceleration is much more unlikely than driver error.

A car has to pass 5 tests. The first one is frontal crash tests. Frontal crashes are the most common type of accident that results in road fatalities. The tests include moderate and small overlap testing. Moderate overlap frontal testing uses a barrier a little over two feet tall. Only 40% of the front of the driver's side of the vehicle strikes the barrier during the test. Small overlap frontal testing has the test vehicle traveling at 40 mph and striking a five-foot-tall rigid barrier. This test is designed so that only 25% of the front driver's side of the vehicle hits the barrier, simulating what happens to a vehicle when striking an object such as a utility pole or tree.

And last but not least, front crash prevention test. Vehicles undergo two forms of testing when determining their front crash prevention rating, the first at 12 mph and the second at 25 mph. Both tests reward vehicle points determined by how quickly it warns drivers of any impending impact.
