The Tasso Road Tapes
Here are some recently rediscovered demo songs I recorded 30 years ago when i was living in London, 1994.
Some songs i had completely forgotten about but it’s all coming back to me now. Weird to kind of hear your own songs for the first time again!
Recorded using my house mate Paul’s Tascam 244 Portastudio, Boss DR-550 Dr Rhythm Drum machine, Hohner Strat copy plugged directly into the Tascam, Acoustic & bass guitar.
18 originals & 1 cover. (Meat Puppets) I’m calling it a double LP!

Back in those days I worked summers in Ios Greece and after ‘93 season I returned via Norway to the same share house, Tasso Road Barons Court, and having scored a well paying electrician’s job, stayed in London for the winter. That’s also where i met my wife Margaret!

I recently have been going through some boxes of old cassette tapes and these songs were on a tape that was labelled Completely Free. The best of the band Free. I had kept some demo master tapes which i was aware of with 8 or so songs so i was very surprised to find 19 songs here.
Songs & ideas i had written traveling from 89 - 94 and a couple prior to that.
Eg San Fermin is about my time at The Running of the Bulls in Spain. Got mugged in 87 and 89 a friend came back to the van in his underpants as someone had stolen his jeans & passport when he passed out.
Hey Mr Soldier is about Gallipoli, Berlin, Belfast etc
Looking back and relistening now i can see how we are like filters. I can hear the influence of what i was listening to back then eg Lou Reed, REM, The Celibate Rifles, The Meat Puppets, Died Pretty, The Waterboys, The Replacements, The Pouges, The Triffids, The The, New Christs to name a few. So if you like any of those artists you might enjoy these tunes.
These demos/songs/ideas were never meant for public consumption. I think Paul & myself & another Spanish house mate are the only people that have heard them. This is just a way to maybe preserve them and if you do give them a listen i hope you enjoy them for what they are.
Regards
Nigel
