Triangular Cooperation Afghanistan-Indonesia-Germany for the Economic Empowerment of Women: stronger partnerships and continuous efforts on empowering women towards sustainable development
On behalf of the Indonesian Government and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Indonesian Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (MOWE CP) in coordination with the National Coordination Team of South-South Cooperation and GIZ implemented a project with agreed goal on deepening the Concepts for the economic empowerment of women in conditions of conservative patriarchal societies by the triangular cooperation.
The project strengthened the partnership between Indonesia and Afghanistan through some direct exchanges to identify best practices for the economic empowerment of women through home industry. Followed by facilitating joint efforts to develop one concept on women economic empowerment mutually agreed by Indonesia and Afghanistan for possible exercising in Afghanistan. As facilitating partner, GIZ ensured quality, partnership and sustainability throughout the process.
The project approach focused on three key principles:
a. Partnership:
through exchange and steering meetings Indonesia, Afghanistan and Germany agreed on roles and responsibilities, including sharing of resources. All three partners fully participated in the entire process including planning, implementation, monitoring and review;
b. Joint Learning for Sustainable Development:
through horizontal exchanges and co-creation for the aspects of women economic empowerment, project management and partnership effectiveness for development solutions. In that sense, GIZ facilitates activities and partnership at the country level to ensure the demands and needs were met;
c. Key Process:
Included two direct workshops and one virtual exchange (due to Covid-19 pandemic) with which the key indicators of the projects were discussed and agreed such as (i) the best practices on women economic empowerment through home industry (ii) the one concept to exercise the agreed best practices in Afghanistan and (iii) the lessons learnt taken from the triangular cooperation project for future SSTC in Indonesia.
