This was a problem only I seemed to experience in that game.
As you can see everyone still plays normally and the wave progresses as usual.
My ping was not an issue and neither was my internet connection.

This problem only happened on the Frankfurt servers and none of the other server clusters I joined that day.
The in-game console gave me a hint at the problem with the "SteamNetworkingSockets" error.
I believe this issue was addressed in a Steam update and was resolved.
