Demonstrators rallied near the Israeli embassy in Amman on Wednesday to demonstrate their support for the Palestinian people amid escalating violence and a rising death toll in their neighbour over the River Jordan.

The crowds could be seen chanting, waving the flag of Palestine and burning the flag of Israel.

Over the last few days there has been an increase in tensions between Israel and Palestinians, sparked partially by the planned eviction of several Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in East Jerusalem, as well as recent clashes between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police at the al-Aqsa compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount.

Since the start of the latest round of hostilities some 83 people, including 17 children, have been killed in Gaza, while seven have died in Israel, as Palestinian militants and Israeli forces continue to exchange rocket fire and air strikes.
