Hansi Flick has steered his team to continental glory, with Bayern Munich confirming themselves as the new kings of Europe with a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon on Sunday night.


Kingsley Coman's well-placed header into the far corner of the net secured the Bavarian club their sixth Champions League trophy and completed a treble for the 2019/20 season.

It's the first time since 2013, when Bayern Munich defeated domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund, that Germany's most successful club have brought the famous trophy back to the Allianz Arena, yet this latest success also catapults them into a rather unique grouping.

With wining this, their sixth title, Bayern Munich are now the third most successful club in European Cup history behind AC Milan and Real Madrid - the leaders with 13.

They share this stage with Liverpool, who have also won six European Cups.

Bayern Munich have also become the first team to win the Champions League by winning every single match they've played in the tournament, although due to the COVID-19 break and the abridged nature of the tournament they have played less matches than would usually be required.
Despite all these records and accolades, it must be remembered that back in November it looked as if the 2019/20 season was to be a write-off for Bayern Munich.

Niko Kovac had lost total control of a dressing room that was in freefall, sitting fourth in the Bundesliga and losing 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt.

After initially only arriving as a temporary measure as the club hierarchy drew up a list of long-term successors, Flick has stunned everyone with his incredible man-management skills and tactical nous.

What has followed has been nothing short of staggering, with the team not losing a single match in 2020, recording 24 wins and a solitary draw.

Alphonso Davies' promotion to a regular at left-back, with David Alaba moving into central defence, was the masterstroke which has set Bayern Munich on the path to Sunday evening's success.
