It is January 2021, the aviation industry is still amidst the worst crisis in its history, yet some large network airlines such as Lufthansa still keep Europe connected by flying to some structurally important destinations in their network. During the 2nd Covid-Lockdown Lufthansa still had about 6 flights a week going to Krakow, Poland, where on that grey January day D-AIDL, at that time a 9 years old Airbus A321, was scheduled to go, as one of two A321 that remained active in LH’s fleet. The flight was of course not at all well-booked. Only around 30-40 passengers wanted to go to Poland today, actually an Airbus A319 was scheduled to operate the service, but planes were switched last-minute.
Frankfurt Airport was emptier than ever that day, without a single aircraft parked at the south-east side of Concourse A. Everything from Pushback to taxiing to Runway 07C to depart straight to the east went accordingly smooth. During the line-up one had the sad image of the 5 A380 Lufthansa has not yet sent to Teruel, Spain for deep storage, they were rather kept waiting at their maintenance hangar anticipating their fate.
Shortly after liftoff, passengers had a nice view onto the construction site of Terminal 3, one could clearly get an idea of the progress, hoping for better years for the industry to come.
In the meantime D-AIDL has been sent to Stuttgart for storage, just 6 days after the recording.
