What's the Covid-19 situation in Costa Rica? Are borders ever going to open? Who is allowed in once they open the borders? What are the rules? What are the restrictions?? Can U.S. citizens enter Costa RIca? If so, how?

Tico Lingo Program Director Chris does his best to address these questions and provide insight on the border opening on AUGUST 2ND.


The first planes carrying tourists have arrived! What are the requirements for entry to Costa Rica?

1.) Travel from Canada, the UK, or the EU
Canada, United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia,,Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, or the Vatican City

2.) Purchase travel insurance through INS (Instituto Nacional de Seguros) that covers medical expenses of, at minimum, $20,000 and housing costs of at least $4,000.
- Go to: https://cotiza.ins-cr.com/frmPaquete.aspx
- Select "Viajero Dólares Clientes En El Exterior"
- Proceed through the form (select the British flag for English)
- Once you arrive at STEP 5, click on "Next" at the very bottom
- You'll be brought to a screen where you have to select your payment method. Select, "Pago con Tarjeta de Crédito o Débito"
- Click "Next" and then insert your card info in the required fields

You'll receive an email with the policy details. Print this to have on hand and keep the digital copy.


3.) Proof of a negative result of a Covid-19 test. The sample given must be given for the test no more than 48 hours before departing on your flight. I'd recommend have a digital and physical copy of the results.
