TravelCostaRicaNOW.com recommends making a donation of $20. or $50 or $100. That can go a long way to making sure parents can feed their kids until the border are open again and the tourists return. I gotta say, after living here in La Fortuna for almost 15 years now, I do feel I need to do my part and also in a weird way, I feel like a protective parent. And as a protective parent, I have to do whatever it takes to give back to a town that's given me and D'Angelo so much. If this little campaign only collect a couple hundred dollars (obviously I hope a lot more), it's still a couple hundred more that they had. It is true, every little bit helps.

TravelCostaRicaNOW appreciates ANY support you can give to the families in La Fortuna. *WE realize that many people around the world are in need, we're just asking if you do have a little extra money and you do want to help, that you will consider the Tico families in La Fortuna.

La Fortuna Costa Rica is arguably the top tourist destination in Costa Rica. A large percentage of the tourists who visit Costa Rica, usually stop in La Fortuna at some point in their travels. And understandably so. It boasts some of the BEST hotels found anywhere and of course the budget traveler has many options as well. And although Costa Rica isn't known for it's cuisine, it does have restaurants here that serve up everything from sushi to Peruvian, to Chinese, to Italian and of course good old steak and potatoes. And plenty of SODAS (mom and pop places) cooking the the typical Tico food, such as galo pinto and casados. But really, people come to La Fortuna Costa Rica for the beauty and the adventure tours. Everything is here... and if it's not here, it's close: rafting, ziplining, rappelling, ATV's, horseback, dune buggies, hanging bridges, caves, hiking, night walks, wildlife refuges, biking, trekking, the list goes on and on. Not too mention , the Arenal Volcano, Lake Arenal, the Waterfalls, Rio Celeste, lush rainforest, flora & fauna.

And there in lies the problem. Almost everyone who lives here in La Fortuna works and breaths tourism- waiters, chefs, guides, tour operators, maintenance, grounds keepers, animal handlers, more guides, shuttle drivers, taxi drivers, construction people, hotel owners.... this pandemic HIT La Fortuna HARD. And really, not much light at the end of the tunnel yet. When will the borders open? When will airlines start back with international flights to Costa Rica? Will the restrictions be to strict and off putting. When will people start traveling again. The work here is already seasonal. Not every month is a good one, regardless if there's a pandemic or not. So there's some lean months. Many make good money but it's still paycheck to paycheck for most here in La Fortuna and they just can't go without work for months at a time. And it's already months at a time. They (we) need your help. Just to get to December. Tico's are not lazy, they want to work. So as soon as the borders open back up and tourist return, they will be good to go. Costa Ricans in general, live a Pura Vida lifestyle. They don't ask for much. They work to live, not live to work. It's a simple life but generally a happy one. So they don't need or want much.

A $20/$50/$100 donation can go alooonnngggg way here. Remember, beans and rice are their staples here. Thank god for Gallo Pinto :) Beans and rice are CHEAP. Coffee is cheap. Milk, eggs, the staples are all cheap here. So it works like this. YOU make a donation. There may be a small credit card fee but besides that, the rest of the donated money goes directly to the families. Well, not the money. An organization here will collect the money, buy the food and distribute it to the families who need it the most.
